Agile Foundational courses are designed for anyone interested in using Agile on their team or are currently working in an Agile environment. Learn modern and collaborative techniques and skills to be an effective Agile team member.

Explore events, roles, and the overall flow of Scrum within Agile. These hands-on courses provide a deeper understanding of writing user stories or cards, organizing those cards in the product or sprint backlog by estimating, prioritizing, and elaborating user stories and cards. Understand the key metrics used on Agile and Scrum to show progress and measure productivity.

Course Length: 3 days

CDU/PDU: Earn 21 CDU/PDU for both IIBA and PMI certification

Prerequisites: Some experience with Agile will be helpful, but it is not required.

What We Cover

Introduction to the Agile and Scrum Framework and Scrum Team Roles

  • Learn the fundamentals of the Agile framework process and roles (scrum leader, product owner, and team member)

  • Explore the Agile principles, values, and Agile manifesto to understand Agile's guiding principles

  • Understand Agile terms and concepts

  • Learn how the scrum process works

  • Explore the ceremonies within the scrum process

  • Understand variations of the scrum process

Scrum Events and Roles in Depth

  • Explore and understand in greater detail each scrum role including non-traditional Agile roles like Business Analyst, Product Manager, Project Manager, Tester, and Quality Analyst.

  • We'll go deeper into each scrum ceremony and discuss how each role interacts with the ceremony

  • Learn new approaches to successful sprinting.

Writing Better User Stories (Cards) and Acceptance Criteria

  • This course helps you write compelling user stories by identifying the attributes and guidelines for writing better user stories

  • Discover techniques to write effective User Stories (Cards) and acceptance criteria

  • Understand definition of done (DoD), understand the definition of ready (DoR), and minimally viable product (MVP)

  • Learn how to ensure the minimum viable product is present in all user stories (cards)

  • Learn how to ensure user stories (cards) are right-sized

  • Explore how to work with user stories (cards) in backlogs, and more

Agile Backlogs, Story Mapping, and Prioritization

  • Learn to manage and organize User Stories (cards) in a Story Map for planning and estimating

  • Learn how to utilize the story map to feed the product backlog

  • Understand how to use the story map for prioritization

  • Explore creating a story map backbone and how to build out the backbone in a way that is meaningful for the product

  • Learn to use story maps for backlog refinement

  • We will explore how to prioritize cards and user stories effectively while balancing each sprint's different types of cards (new capability, bug fix, research, etc.).

Agile Estimating and Metrics

  • Learn collaborative techniques for estimating cards or user stories in the product or sprint backlog.

  • Learn the best approach to estimating to plan a sprint or release more accurately.

  • Understand the 5 levels of Agile panning and how to apply them.

  • Learn how to use a roadmap to prioritize cards for sprints.
